IBRSC Patches
« on: Aug 08, 02, 11:38:43 pm CDT »

It\'s been bandied about the Board that there is interest in a patch with the IBRSC logo. While respecting copyright laws, and with permission of the owner of said copyright, if such a patch were available, would you purchase one?

If anyone has, in fact, contacted Lars about this, please let it be known, so that
a.) SOMEONE does and,
b.) he\'s not deluged with requests when one answer would suffice.

Would you really buy one? You know you want it!

I spoke with Lars on the phone today. He sounded like he hasn't had NEARLY enough sleep lately. He said that patches sounded great! If someone else is willing to do the legwork of designing, getting his approval (and licensing) and finding a distribution channel so ALL Rogues will have access, then he's willing to go along with it. Anyone with know someone in the embroidery biz?

Aerlinn, do you still have the hook-up?

I'd better - he's my brother! ::rofl::

I'll see him tonight and pump him for information ... I believe the minimum order's 100.

Anyone have an idea how big ya want it? Size *ahem* does matter ... something like 4" square, think you?

Hopefully more tomorrow!

That sounds about right. Here's my thoughts:

Shield-shaped
Full-color
embroidered
appx 4" tall.

Any other thoughts?

You can figure out the logistics and everything else so that all you would need to do it is Lars' ok.

Recommendation: make it something that could easily be put on garb in a strict period faire.

I say do it in the Classic look, just Brown with the Black stiching, like I have for my Avatar :: points to it:: That would be able to fit in the period type faires.

The parchment look would probably be cheaper at first.  After seeing how the sales are for it, check into how much the color version would be for it.

Mornin' Lads,

Has anyone talked to Mage about this? Me being clueless about e-commerce; how does the Cafepress crap we all have pass muster?  Would that be a venue????????

I personally would like it to have a "cleaner" look - the CafePress stuff looks too digitalized for me...  I think the embroidery could make it look really sharp...

Why a period friendly patch? What? Your pin ain't good enough. most faires that are THAT period won't let you wear your frellin' pin let alone a silly PATCH!

And take a look at the poll... This is what I was talking about... people are gung ho about this; Cool. "everyone will want one"...but out of 700+ rogues: 15 answered the poll.. hmm... not really the basis for spending money on a minimum run...

Trust me, I've price out bumper stickers, car window decals and other shit... It's not a sound monetary investment...

Rennies are inherently cheap... Save for garb and weapons, garb usually second to weapons...

Good point - especially since the minimum order is 100, as far as I know (still awaiting official info - my brother's slightly MIA.  ::cwm5::  ). and for a 4-inch patch at a quantity of 100, they seem to run about $3-5 each, according to the website (http://www.neeonline.com/catalog_search.html) - I can't guarantee a family discount. Right now the count seems to stand at about ... twenty? (Not everyone's saying how many they'd want)

If there's enough interest, maybe we could work out an arrangement using strictly Paypal - I don't know how the feeling would run toward paying in advance, but I do know that I, for one, can't afford to pay for a full run  of patches and pray they sell...

Absolutely - if this flies, I would want it to be all wrapped up in a neat package to show him in two minutes or less so that he could say a quick & simple "yes" or "no".

Put the word out, m'lads - the more people who are serious and firmly want a specific number of patches, A) the more likely it is that they'll materialize, and B) the cheaper they'll be.

I think that's what was meant by it not being a sound monetary investment. Someone is going to have to dish out the $300-$500 for the initial minimum order, which is 100. And no one knows how many are going to sell. Which means in order to break even you have to charge x-amount for the minimum that will sell. In my experience when getting custom made items such as this, there are usually set up charges above and beyond the $3-$5 per patch. Companies tend to chrage more for each color that is on an item, how complex the dsign is (with embroidery, it means more stitiches: more thread). Then there's the shipping costs from the supplier, which might be about $20. Then there would be the cost of shipping from whoever is playing the middle man to the customer. I'm not saying that this isn't feasible, but that spiffy little $4 patch can easily turn into a $10 patch... and would people still be willing to buy that item and think they are getting their money's worth?
