Seeking Yurt!
« on: Apr 01, 04, 09:00:06 pm CST »

I'm looking to barter for a 20' diameter yurt made from canvas and with a sturdy enough frame to hang from.

Please contact me if you are interested.

Thanks!

If you're willing to buy a yurt just pick up a copy of Mother Earth News. I was just eyeballing a nice ad for a very fun yurt in the latest edition.

They don't sell that where I am at the moment.  Also, I had needed it for Pennsic which starts around august 9th.

I had hoped to barter airplane tickets to just about any worldwide destination for the yurt.

Thanks anyway, though. :)

Is there a benefit to having it made of Egyptian cotton?

Actually yes it is the tightest woven cotton that you can get and flows like silk, it is one of the most wind resistant, I spent the night in one in Maine with the wind chill of -50 and never got a chill, as far as breathablity it is execellent and yet is water resistant which is really a contradiction for cotton. I have met with many many winter outdoors people like myself and they swear by in all sorts of clothing such as anoraks (coats) mukluks and the like,  I have shyed away because of price and the fact I have enough equipment to outfit and expadition to Denali. But give me a little time and I should get you some #'s and names I do have patterns fot yurt/tents that if buy the raw material and you know a seamstress your golden.  peace yo.

I'm sure Raphael will be appreciative but I think it's too late. The event he wanted it for is going on right now.

I don't know of anyone looking to trade one, but here are some directions on how to build one:

Ah. Well, I grew up in the country and my dad's hobby was woodworking, so I typically think, "Can I build it?" when it comes to things like this.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for anyone seeking to trade one.

I have a great appreciation for people who are able to do handicrafts with skill, since it is a talent I do NOT possess! :)

Thanks for passing the word,

maybe, Raph, you could buy the materials and then barter with someone to make it for you...that would greatly cut down on cost and you both can get some stuff you want...

And have it made exactly how you want it!

Well, since there are many variations people use to make yurts, it would be tough for me to know exactly what would be needed.  Also, the person I barter with might not be next door and transport would have to be arranged at least twice for the materials, rather than just once.

Thanks for the thought, though. :)

I have a friend who makes them who may be willing to barter, he goes to pennsic and camps with the Rougues...(Festor of the Pennsic Rouges, no relation to IBRSC).  He is living in DC now I think.
Email me at [email protected] and I will get you in touch with him.
