Maryann, seriously, was is needed to quote all of Dmitri's post?

I mean, this whole thread is about that post so why even try to quote it?

and then all you do is post some lame ass line at the end of the quote...

besides, I think you continue to prove time and again the power or intelligence over and over when you constantly say how your quote thingy, smilies, or whatever do not work....

they work fine, it is you who is not working them properly...

This may be off topic, but as mentioned recently by some of my esteemed colleagues in various threads; some folks seem to have difficulty using the QUOTE function on these boards.

“Why is this a problem?” Well….

When one posts a quote so it appears with HTML tags, rather than in the proper quote form (that being without tags) it can make comprehending a post difficult because the reader has to wade through the mess to find the part that you actually wrote. Once located, the reader must then try to relate your comment to the botched quote you posted with it. Often, your message can be lost, disregarded, or misinterpreted as a result. More often…it just gets your ass served to you. When that happens folks must read many pages of back and forth posts between you trying to defend your blunder, and the various folks who will continue to hammer the much needed lesson home to you.

It is a vicious cycle…. A chain that must be broken. So I offer the following PSA:
(cue 1950’s health class movie reel music)

If you want to use the quote function here....

Learn how to use it so that the HTML tags do NOT show up.

HTML tags look like this:
Quote from: ”Bob”
whatever Bob said

Step 1…..hit QUOTE at the top right of post you wish to quote; this will bring you to a reply box within which you will see the quote in HTML tags.

Step 2…..be sure your cursor is NOT inside those tags.

Step 3…..type your reply*

Step 4…..hit SUBMIT.

*It is a good idea to use the PREVIEW key to check your post for mistakes prior to hitting submit. Make sure your quote appears in proper form. Check for spelling or grammatical errors too while you're at it. There is no EDIT button here, so once you hit SUBMIT, your blunders are there for the entire cyber world to see. A wise poster uses PREVIEW; it can be an ass saver.

Once you have mastered QUOTE, you may go on to advanced quoting where you can edit out any irrelevant data from a quote leaving only the portion you wish to address in your reply inside the HTML tags. This can be tricky….you must be sure to NOT delete any part of the tags or your quote will not post in proper form. It is not recommended that one attempt this advanced function until they have mastered the basic full quote. Even trickier is quoting someone who has already quoted another. This entails more than just one set of tags and for the quoting novice, it can be extremely difficult to decipher which tags are pertinent and which are not. You may end up quoting the wrong person. So poster beware!

On a side note......you don't need to quote someone *every* time you post. The information is already in the thread and therefore, QUOTE is often not necessary to get your point across.

If any portion of the above is too difficult for you to master....then please stop trying.

For bandwith, if not the reader’s time, sake.

Thank you.  (fade music)

You can always do a preview before you send, or am I the only one that does that?

preview is to the LEFT of the submit button...

So, you look right to the right of it BEFORE you submit....

PREVIEW FIRST, then hit submit when you are happy with it
