Looking for good set of pipes
« on: Mar 18, 05, 10:19:28 pm CST »

Before you say" yeah aren't we all " I mean bagpipes. I started lessons a week ago on the chanter and am looking to by some quality used pipes. New ones are gonna run from 1,000 to 5,000 and I don't think so. My range is a cuple hundred, maybe up to 500 if they are really worth it. Anyone got some or know someone?

Although I cannot help you with pipes, I'm curious as to where you're taking lessons.  I've always wanted to learn - and although I'm not going to be signing up right off, it'd be nice to have some idea of where to start looking if I decide to chase that particular rainbow in the future.

Try the local AOH ( ancient order of hybernians) or do what I did, go to the nearest kilt shop and ask if they know any of the local pipe bands (they always do, for obvious reason). Also look online for books or sheet music, I started out by teaching myself. Bagpipes are about the easiest instument to play, only ten notes and the range is qiute small. If you can read music, you are halfway there. good luck.
