Story: A mad mage not MADMAGE
« on: Jun 07, 01, 09:20:44 am CDT »

Sitting on the hill over looking the burning castle Ganlin looked down at the remains of his fathers spell book. He was crying on the inside only because he could not cry on the outside for you see he has no tear ducts.  He was going blind slowly as his eyes dried out. He would have been blind by now if not for his mothers help over the seven years since his birth but she was dead now too. He calls out for his dog Mardi and she comes to his side as always. Ganlin vows to destroy all  who did this to his family. Now thirty years later…

Now 30 years later, still with Mardi at his side (the spell book contained an incantation to make all beloved pets live until their owners death) he comes to the point of his journey that he had dreamed of.  Over the past thirty years his journey had taken him to many places and had shown him many experiences...

Now would be the time of HIS reckoning. He would be avenged, even if it would take the last drop of his blood to do it. He had dreamt of this moment for the last 30 years.

...his faithful Mardi at his side, they listened to the sounds around them.  The birds seemed to sing an almost deafening song - did their lovely voices unknowingly mask danger around them.  Mardi seemed to sense it as she snarled in a low gutteral tone....

Then he felt it, up in the trees.........
Something is very, very wrong here.  Such powerful, untamed energy.  Who, or what, could be generating that much power?

Just as his magical scans began to get a bearing where to look, the feeling was gone. "Ah ha!! So the game is afoot."

....goes the spoils of a lifetime of anticipation. The rancid smell of revenge was almost overwhelming.  But Ganlin knew that his enemy was much more cunning and powerful than his pride would let him believe.  He looked down and deep within himself to put in perspective the patience it would take to defeat him.  His father's screams of horror and terror echoed in his ears.  Ganlin would not make the same mistake by underestimating the element of surprise....

Then it dawned on Ganlin, "How can I possible fight such power?!?"
From somewhere within the recesses of his mind came, 'Seek out those like you!  The unique, those who have a special quality that will aid you in your quest!'  With that, he set off to gather those he would need to accomplish that which is turly difficult.....

leaving the unseen enemy behind him ganlin and mardi went off to sear for the powerful wizards and learned men of the earth once more.  He vowed to return now that he knew where to find this monster of evil.  He would destroy the thing that killed his family.  his mind racing with thoughts of revenge, he did not realize he had walked unknowingly into a pond.  SON OF A!!!! he exlaimed as he backed out of the water and slowly started a spellto lift all the water off of him.

HO there cried a voice.. do not use your magic in my forrests
for i am wary of all who use magic and would rather it not be used in my forrest.
Ganlin not easily frightened by voices and large words looked around with his magic and found the voice.  The voice came from a......

no paths leading to those mountains. The squirril replied:
did you think to look up? Ganlan looks and sees a rope ladder going up into the trees. Climbing up he sees a series of paths leading through the trees. heading down the righthand path he comes to an opening  near a cliff side. He also hears some water dripping down the rocks nearby. Climbing onto the rocks he looks up and sees...

A very lovely garden. In the center was an old lady that was tending a rather rare rose bush. She looked up at Ganlin and motioned him to come inside..........

...as he entered the garden, he began to feel a strange sensation, the garden became warmer, then hot. His eyes began to water, his vision blurred. The garden around him appeared to be melting, things began to go dark and blurry. The only thing clear to him was the old woman, she remained a shining presence...until even her image began to warp, but not blur...until he realized that she had become...

a large red serpent. As the Snake approached Galan, he thought he heard a harp in the distance. Turning to race away from the horror approaching, he felt a sharp pain in his right heel. He had stepped on a rake from the garden. seizing his new found weapon he lunged at the snake. the cold steel touched the snake and it vanished. Galan dropped the rake and raced from the room. He had to find the source of the harp sounds. Turning left in the corrider he encountered a small...

A short distance passed by but suddenly Galen started to trip. Stairs leading down and around seemed to be the reason. There was a small light reflecting on the walls which grew brighter the further down he went. Just ahead was the dog standing in front of a solid oak door. The door was just slightly cracked open. Galen decided to toss a small stone he had found into the room. he remembered the
garden room. When nothing stirred within, he moved into the room and saw a picture on the wall. It looked familiar,
Why it was a picture of....
