7 Swords Needed for a "Cinderella Themed" Wedding
« on: Sep 08, 05, 10:44:10 am CDT »

A buddy of mine is getting married several months from now (don't know exactly when) and his bride-to-be is planning a Cinderella Themed wedding.  As part of the wedding he wants to have 7 swords; one for him and one for each of the men in his half of the wedding party.  He's no millionaire so he needs to keep the price down.

I pointed him to Starfire Swords already and the 24 inch longsword is $120 a pop.  Does anyone know of some good garb quality swords he can order for $100 each or under?  He plans on having a relative engrave them so they have to be able to take engraving and polish.  He wants to give the boys something nice and also to walk in under an arch of blades.

Anyone know anyone or any company that might fit his bill?  Please post here so that everyone can benefit, OK?

it might take me a few days to get in touch with the guy, but someone I know from my Celtic Festivals might be able to help.  The very least I can do it put you and friend in touch with him.

Define good quality.  You can get a reasonable looking wall-hanger SLO for that price.  I wouldn't trust it to do anything other than look shiny, though.

I googled "cheap swords" and found a bunch of stuff

http://www.kopes.com/swords/inexpensive.htm
The Bronze Fantasy Sword  or the Lion's Head Sword at $40 and $50 look cool.

http://www.swordsdirect.com/cavalry-swords.html
Cavalry swords, which make for a nice sword arch, for $32 each!  With metal scabbard.  Plus, buy ten and get ten horizontal display table stands for free.

Can't beat that with a stick.  :)

http://www.knightsedge.com/italian-decorator-swords.htm
Swords with a slightly more rennie bent for $48 each.

For a Cinderella theme, you could look at these rapier-esque SLO's.  They're pretty, engravable, and nothing on the page is over $80.

As far as he knows none of his buddies are Rennies so I doubt he'd need anything staged combat quality but he doesn't want to hand out cheap crap to his boys for this.  Basically he wants to give them all a nice gift they can keep.  He came to me about it because he knows I collect and that I'd help him find the good stuff.

I came to all of us because we are the Board Collective.  Ren-sistance is futile.  The Collective Mind(lessness) will solve the problem with the most efficiency.

If you're not swinging it, that makes it nothing more than a wall/hip hanger.  In that case, go with stainless.  It looks as nice, waaay less maintenance, and usually cheaper.  This one looks like a good bang for the buck that will fit nicely with the theme.  Also, it comes with a sheath.  It's a catalog-style piece that I've seen a few times.  I don't remember it particularly turning my stomach, which says that it's fine for what it is.

I've forwarded all this to my friend after letting him read this thread over my shoulder.  He's floored with how fast and how researched you all are and, unsrurpisingly, he's so far leaning towards Brennan's recommendations.  Keep them coming though because the more options he has the smaller the chance this could be a part of his wedding that would be screwed up.

Thanks for your help so far gang.

sorry but hell no on that one

I have had it fall apart out of the box and the ones that have stayed together continued to look like shite.

Bud K might have some descent broadswords, perhaps their irish or tewkesbury swords, They are very light and a lil springy tho

Armaduras Are very nie looking good quality false edge but pricey for pretty.
Denix are complete show and i doubt they would take an angraving . . . Besides I cant think of any denix that would be appropriate

Bud K is a great place for cheap wallhangers. I have a ton of 'em.

Most of the people here will recognize right away that they're not functional in any way but the people I know locally and invite over sometimes have no idea.

They just look at all the swords and go "Aw man...COOL!"

My "good" swords I tend to keep tucked away.

Welcome to one of Curben's stupid moments...you've so missed the point of this thread dude.  My buddy's looking for SEVEN swords for HIS WEDDING and he NEEDS TO KEEP IT CHEAP.    These swords are going to a bunch of guys that have never been to a Ren Faire, probably never held a sword and will either toss the one they get in a closet or hang them on a wall and forget about them.  Why would my friend blow a few thousand dollars which he doesn't have to spend like that?

As the old wise man said you get what you pay for.

As a good example my brother the "male slut bag" had free sex with lots of woman and got the CLAP..

When your with one woman you pay and you do not get that shit.
