XMas question - Best toy ever
« on: Dec 23, 07, 09:41:03 am CST »

OK, during your whole childhood...no wait...some of us are in their 50's and still in their childhood...erm...

OK, got it...from your earliest memory until you got your 17th birthday...yeah, that'll work...what was your favorite toy.  The toy you always went back to and played with or (in later years) still had and picked up to make you smile from time to time.

(Pathos, pay attention here.)  Although most poeple that know me would think it was something Star Wars it was actually a G.I. Joe figure:  the original Snake Eyes figure from 1982.  I think I still have it in storage somewhere.  That was the first G.I. Joe toy of that line that I got and I had it even after I sold off most of the rest of my collection to help me buy my first car.

What's yours?

See? It's not so hard to set the example is it?   ;)

For me...without question it was the...

Micronauts Battle Cruiser!!!

I wanted that thing more than Ralphie wanted the Red Ryder BB gun. But it was big and it was expensive...at least for us at the time. This was right about the time I became (sadly) aware that Santa didn't bring presents...your parents bought them...so simply being good wasn't enough.

When I opened that present Christmas morning I practically gang-tackled both my parents at the same time with a flurry of hugs and kisses.

I held onto that thing for several years. It wasn't until I'd grown up and moved out into the world that my mom donated it to the Salvation Army along with a bunch of other old toys. I was ok with it. I'd already been collecting comics for years but never thought about actually keeping my old toys.

Besides...I'd put a lot of miles on the thing. It was pretty beat up. Hopefully some underprivileged kid had some fun with it for awhile.

Maybe someone doesn't want you to see pages about old toys.

Afraid you'll go on an e-bay rampage or something.

I might jsut yet.  I can't tell you how many times I've been close to bidding on one of the original G.I Joe Vamp jeeps complete with figure.  What stops me is that I have an apartment that's loaded with crap already.

Gee, I wonder who that could be??? Heheheh.

Mine would be Mr. Machine.
I loved that toy. I have always been very mechanically inclined and this toy was perfect for me. No machine was safe around me when I was little. I used to take them apart to try and figure out how they worked and then try and put them back together again. So this was the perfect toy for me, because it was designed to be taken apart and put back together.

My father hated the bell on it. He used to take it off when I wasn't looking and hide it on me.

For me, it was either Legos (and any of their clones) or Transformers.  I always sneered my nose at the Go-Bots.

Being of the female persuasion, this one is easy.

Barbie!!

There would be other favorite toys every now and again, but we would always come back to Barbie.  My friend's mom would make clothes for our Barbies and when a bunch of us got together, we had (collectively) a Barbie house, 2 corvettes, a plane a pool and a motor home.

Many good hours spent on our front porch playing with that blonde bomb shell.

Mine was the Cabbage Patch doll.  I know, I know, they're ugly little nothings, way too expensive for what they are... but we were rather po' at the time, and I never had 'what all the other kids have'.  My late Grandma got it for me, made sure to get one that matched my hair & eyes so she'd look like me.

Granted, it was the year After the craze, but I still had one.

I actually still have her, with the other fave stuffed animals from my childhood.

...I miss my gram.

ok, let's see how many ppl remember this one:   WEEBLES!  Weebles wobble but they don't fall down!  I miss my weebles, dunno where they got to, but i STILL have one weble that's the dog that came with the weeble family house.

and i recently found a small Hungry Hippos keychain game.  My sister & I would go bananas playing that thing until we lost all the marbles & 2 of the hippos lost their heads....(and yes, i know there's tons of jokes in there, folks)

Weebles!!!  Oh man - I forgot about them!  I used to have the treehouse & everything!  My fave part of that was the hidden door... and the elevator!

I had a whole Weeble family... but no pets. *sigh*

There was actually a family named Weeble in the town I grew up in. They weren't too thrilled when the toys came out.

Especially since one of them was a drunk who used to fall on his face quite regularly.

Hmmm, Transformers (I had mostly Decepticons, but I just beat the shit out of all the neighborhood barbies for kicks) bunch of Matchbox cars...that was about it. I spent most of my time either hiking, playing "war", or working for my Dad.

**We usued to tease my old man before he passed away that he had a boy and a girl, but that they were backwards, I was the "boy" and my little brother was the bitch of the family. He's 23 and still lives at home on his ass, the fuckin' toad. No love lost there...**
