Infused Fruit
« on: Feb 17, 09, 06:41:30 pm CST »

Does anyone have any experience in injecting fruit with alcohol?  I'm looking for help with oranges specifically but I'll try anything once.  I have the needle, I just don't know the proportions or injection sites.

Oh the perks of having friends with diabetes.  There is always something creative and alcoholic we could do for our liquid lunch habit and still appear to be outstanding student leaders.

Vodka is awesome in oranges.  After a morning in the locker it was like having a fuzzy navel for lunch.

We found that the orange only holds so much before it would split the peel open so you don't have to worry about putting too much inside.  The best way, from experience is to do several 'shots' around the orange to get most of the slices saturated.  Then roll the orange around on the counter using slight pressure to squeeze the juice of the orange and mix it with the alcohol.  As it rests it seeps back into the slices.

You can also buy a big jar of Maraschino Cherries, pour out the juice and replace it with a mixture of as many clear alcohols as you can get your grubby little protuberances on and let them soak in it for a few months, replacing as much alcohol as vanishes to keep them submerged.  After about 3 or 4 months you'll have Cherry Bombs and, boy, do they get you bombed.

Another good one is to spike a watermelon with vodka (or everclear). Let it soak overnight, chill, slice, and enjoy.

Mix a little grenadine and tequila in your orange to get the sunrise effect.

That does sound good.

I think we need to have a vegan kegger where it's nothing but fruit that's been spiked.

Anyone ever had frozen grapes?  We eat those like mad in our house.  Soak the grapes in wine of your choice overnight, drain, pat dry and freeze.  Eat frozen.  They're great in the summer.

Brio - you inject the Khaluha into the strawberries?  Interesting.  Might have to try that...
