Halp in setting up wireless TV connection
« on: Jul 15, 10, 03:40:19 pm CDT »

This is my new HDTV (which is supposed to connect to a home network and has a wireless option)
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-video/tv/LG-led-tv-47LE8500.jsp

Here's the owners manual: http://www.lg.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile.jsp?customerModelCode=47LE8500&matchedModelCode=1000010812&searchEngineModelCode=47LE8500&initialTab=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile#

This is the router: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Routers/Linksys-E1000-Wirelessn-router_stcVVproductId97826160VVcatId551966VVviewprod.htm
This is my laptop: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-14?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
My internet service is Time Warner Cable Road Runner.

How do and and what do I need to setup a home network with this TV? I know I can purchase a stick or box to connect to the internet but I believe that connection is limited. My wireless router is behind a panel in closet which is far away from the TV and I can surf on my laptop.

I tried figuring it out but the manual talks about Ethernet, wireless routers, their special USB stick, networks, dongles (WTF is a dongle?) and I'm totally confuckeled.

Well honey, when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much... or kinda like each other... or he paid for dinner... or they're both really bored and want something to do on a Friday night...

*ahem*  Anyway - he takes his dongle, sticks it into her router and they both Road Runner until they're both confuckeled.

So, you're pretty close!  :D

Seriously girl, you're further along than I would be trying to figure out that techie stuff.  Sowwy I can't help.  But maybe I made ya grin?

Seems after a quick read of the instructions, that to do the wireless requires an additional purchase of equipment.

For a reasonable fee of something worthy of rogue (yo) I would gladly come a perform 'technical' setup services for you querrida.  :-*

You will need to read the manual on how to connect your TV to your wireless network...however, it sounds like you never really took advantage of the wireless network already on your router.  Therefore, 1st you have to set up the network on the router...conect the laptop (wirelessly) and then walk through the setup for your TV to find the wireless network provided by your router.  Got all that??

So, 1st...set up your network in your wireless router and for security's sake, PLEASE make it secure and DO NOT use WEP for security use WPA-PSK-TKIP.  Take it from a security professional [My LinkIn Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/dancruz1 ].

Need more specific help...there are alot of forums out there for you router or u can just PM meh if u give up.

Cheers,

Phee, I love you. You did make me laugh.

Gracias Ocasio. Since I don't understand networking I called Time Warner and then Linksys. They told me I could change the security if I had an Ethernet cable. Once I go out and buy that I can change the settings and setup the network on the router. After that, the TV must be linked with an Ethernet cable to my wireless router or a powerline adapter if I want to go wireless. Then I can connect my TV using its built in features to connect to the router and thus the internet. Did I get that right?

Curben and Madmage, I love you most of all you damn goobers.
