Internal Sharepoint / External Website
« on: Dec 03, 10, 09:28:18 am CST »

Can I run these off the same server? I have a machine with 2 TB of local storage and I would hate for it to just sit being one or the other

Can you expand the local storage? Depending on the processor speed and RAM capacity, it could get bogged down. There's lot's of variables. If space is the only issue, Western Digital just came out with a bootable 3TB internal drive. Only catch is those drives won't work with just any system. I think it needs to be 64 bit and the proc and mobo need to be fairly new. I just got a new issue of maximum pc that has an article on those.

I'm in love!  I love it when Tink talks geek.   Tink, we've been doing just this sorta thing in our test labs to harden the systems.  PM meh and I can let you know what worked for us in a VM environment, especially from a security point of view.

LOL Well I use VM a lot, I have three ESXi boxes running and we use VMServer on 4 other machines, hell I even VM'd our production database using all the frem VM stuff. Works great.

I have SharePoint 2010 up and running and now need to get our document lady to look at it so I can build out the sites like she wants. The Web server will have to wait a bit cause I am totally redesigning that layout (behind the scenes) I am going to have it talk to SharePoint and our internal DB for user resolution to our support site.

*Edit, I have no idea why the size tags are showing up, I haven't changed any font at all, maybe it hates Chrome

Computers are just a hobby to me. I know enough not to sink, but I still struggle to swim. Sometimes.

With that said, It's pretty funny when I show the IT guys at my job how to do something. All the people that built our systems and tailored the programs we use for work either transferred, got promoted, or retired. The current crop of people there haven't got a clue and they make a hell of a lot more than I do for much less work. I need to get a degree so I can get their job!

Tink, I have no doubt that you can run circles around these people!

I don't have a degree, nope, not at all. Hell I used to teach Design and Web programming.   But I am now finally an MCITP so that seems to make people think I know what I am doing. Don't believe it

I'm in the engineering dept for an electrical utility. No degree here either. The IT jobs are management and degrees are required. Know how is not. I asked one guy about a setting in bios and he had no idea what I was talking about. God forbid we need something tailored in our design software
I've been contemplating getting a degree just to qualify for an opening if one happens to pop up.  Not sure where I want to settle down. Wanna laugh? No specific degree is required. Any degree will do.

You could wear it to work under a sweater during the cooler months.  LOL!

Please do dig it out and post a pic.  I gotta see this with my own peepers.  :)
