Holiday song suggestions
« on: Dec 12, 01, 11:27:20 pm CST »

Over the years, I have amassed quite the mental catalog of holiday music.  Posted here is a partial list of songs I think everyone should hear at least once.  Perhaps you know of a few as well?  Post them here!

The 12 Gifts of Christmas ~ (I can't remember who it's by... it's on one of the Dr. Demento CDs... heh.)
The Pretty Little Dolly ~ Mona Abboud (hehehehehe)
Christmas Eve - Sarajevo 12/24 ~ Trans-siberian Orchestra (actually, that whole CD is excellant)
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings of Orient Are ~ Barenaked Ladies ("sing if you're in a stone cold tomb!")
Baby it's Cold Outside ~ Bing Crosby & Doris Day (It reminds me of rogues, don't ask me why.)
Chanukkah Song 1 & 2 - Adam Sandler (it amuses me)

Any other suggestions?  I have a whole bunch more, but I think I'll stop here.

Thanks!  I'm so awfully forgetful.

Other song notes :

The songs from A Muppet Family Christmas
Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite

And my mother's mix tape - she made it when she was younger than I am, from a bunch of old records.  I know every word of every song, and can tell you where each song hisses and pops and skips.  It's such a part of my holiday that I can't imagine being without it.

Danae,

"Christmas Eve - Sarajevo 12/24 ~ Trans-siberian Orchestra (actually, that whole CD is excellant)"

I have to agree with you.

This CD is excellent...I get to see them perform on December 29th at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

I'm glad you like them too!  The drummer from that band gives lessons around here.  It would be damn cool to get lessons from him.  :)

Channukah Song by Adam Sandler is hysterical, but the ones that do it for me are:

White Christmas, Bing Crosby
Snow, Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye
Santa Claus is Coming to town, The Pointer Sisters
Winter Wonderland (forgot who sings the older versions)

And then there are a bunch or holiday 'carols' which are called 'Aguinaldos' in spanish.  Basically a group of people come knocking at your door with instruments and when you open the door they start singing these great upbeat (and often funny) songs.  Of course, you must invite them in for munchies and drinks.

My favorite song of all from those carols is
"Si no me dan de beber....LLORO!!
"Si no me dan de beber....LLORO!!
"Si no me dan de beber...LLORO!!
"Si no me dan de beber."

Translated (its alot funnier in spanish though) its:
"If I don't get any drinks...I'll CRY!
"If I don't get any drinks...I'll CRY!
"If I don't get any drinks...I'll CRY!
"If I don't get any drinks..."
