Back in the early 90's before any of these good Marvel movies were made I thought the greatest comic book trilogy would be...

"To Serve a Mad God" - The story from the Avengers (although it crossed over to several series) about Thanos attempt to destroy the universe in order to appease his mistress Death. It ends with Adam Warlock sacrificing himself in order to destroy Thanos and save the universe.

"The Thanos Quest" - A resurrected Thanos scours the galaxy to aquire all the Infinity Gems.

"The Infinity Gauntlet" - Virtually every hero in the galaxy (plus a re-born Adam Warlock) attempt to stop Thanos in his quest to destroy all existence.

I always thought the trilogy would follow the same format as the original Star Wars trilogy. The first film ends on a positive note and could be a stand-alone film if necessary. The second film would be darker and end on a more ominous tone making a third film obvious. The third film would wrap everything up and have a more epic happy ending.

If only...

"Only a man who drinks could talk like that!"
"We escape the unendurable however we can."
- Vincent Price 'The Comedy of Terrors'
