I have worked for over 20 yrs to hone the body with various martial arts. Everything else is just a useful tool. And I can't rely on tools that I may not have on hand.   8)

I think for me that it depends on the situation.

For example, in law enforcement situations, my preferred weapon is a collapsible ASP baton. There's nothing quite like being able to break a person's bones with a single strike.

In self defense situations, I would hope to have my folding knife on me.

In those hypothetical piratical situations, there's my belaying pin.

So, yeah, many situations, many weapons...

I like a dagger myself, especially hubby's skull dagger (named Demon) Razor sharp edge. Makes a lasting impression.

anything within reach, if it can be lifted it can be wielded

Although i prefer double swords, why carry a shield when you can use another weapon

Sabres, preferably with basket hilts for close quarter punching... Curved, single edged... but most swords will do... for medium/long distance, gimme my composite horse bow...

It it is for a stage combat situation or just pairing off with a few freinds my Rapier and dagger, cloak, or cane will work nicely.
Also there is something to be said in knowing how to weild the 9 ring broad sword  :D  but if I ever go slow motion double 40cal Glocks would do nicely  ::2guns::

Sweet! I'm trying to learn anything I possibly can and would appreciate any direction. I took Tae Kwon Do until I was halfway through it, but because of funding I had to stop. That was about 10 years ago. No formal training since then, but I've been trying to get books and videos to learn from. So far I've collected books on Jeet Kune Do, Aikido, Small-Circle Jujitsu, Ninjitsu (and other techniques used by the ninja), and Chi Kung. Videos I have are on Liu He Ba Fa (well, they don't teach really good; I just have to learn quickly through emulation of the form and then take it apart as I see fit...), Snake Fist (a little bit more in-depth, but still same company), Jeet Kune Do (not realistic. Instructor moves at half-speed, "agressor" moves at about 1/8 or so...), and an instructional video on how to use the Whip Chain I currently own.

BUT, now that I'm done with that, I wish to learn as much as I can, so I'm open for suggestions. Good training materials, schools in the Central Cali area (Lemoore is where I'm stationed), anything. Thanks for reading this. I know it was long, but apparently I'm a little more enthusiastic than I knew I already was...

Oh, yeah. Favorite weapon. I prefer the Pudao from what I've seen. I haven't used it, but I've used swords and wished for the longer handle, or short staves and wished for a blade. The best of both worlds.

Just so you know what I'm talking about (not to mention a shameless plug for a business I use a lot):

Well I agree with the Body weapon POV, nothing like it *nods*

But if I had my way, it would be a Sword and dagger.

Of course haveing a loaded pistol behind my back (if not anouther dagger) just in case things don't go my way.  :D

A wise man once said "never bring a knife to a gun fight"... And I have ALWAYS been a firm believer in peace through superior fire power.

Back in college, my roommate (varsity shooting team) was getting hassled by one of the football players... his comment was " you hit me... I shoot you... let's see who get up"  :D

Real world: S&W model 645 or Sig Sauer P220, H&K MP-5/SD with subsonic loads, M-1 Garand for long range work. Gerber or S&W folder for quick and dirty. ASP Baton.

Faire: Bearde Axe, parrying dagger & lobgtail fogger (great for denying your oponent HIS weapon).

But in all venues, the MIND is the best weapon.

there is for me... There is no grace or art to killing with a gun. Any gangbanger can do that... most anyone with an hour training and a steady hand can take a 30.06 with a Redline scope and hit centermass consistantly at 60 yards. Lets see him or her do that withe a bow.

Firearms: Efficient? yes... Artful? not a chance...

I was asked my favorite weapon/style... what my favorite is and what is most efficient are different... At least for me.

Fair 'nuff...  althought I could argue iron sights at 500+ meters is an art...
As far as the more period type weapons... it would have to be the axe... never been good with a sword.

Personally, I like my 6' 6" hubby. Great weapon if you ask me as most men run scared...

Wit is also an effective weapon of choice, but if I was pressed to use something steel, it would be my damascus dagger and rapier.

If I'm just looking to bludgeon someone to death, then I would pick my warhammer. (or a stone)

I;ve been know to make a man cry with only the sharp edge of my tounge.  But if you mean a real weapon i prefer a knife in a fist fight, a gun in a kinfe fight and id all else fails, i have a tazer i got as a gag gift from an ex when i told him i would tazer all strangers who touch my belly w/out permission while pregnant(fyi- we broke up b/c he wanted me to have a kid at 17)

The best weapon depends on what you're planning to do with it. If you planned to wipe out a city in the Middle Ages, best weapon would be the bubonic plague-grab a dead soldier, clunk him on a catapult, and over the wall he goes. Modern-nothing beats a nuke. My overall favoriite weapon is still a dagger-sharp point, dull blade.

I agree with Dmitri. Anybody can use a gun. It just doesn't have that pain feeling that I want to inflict. Then, of course, if you have more than one that you want to take out at one time, a cannon loaded with grape still works well.

I have trained in 7 forms of martial arts and by far my favorite weapons to weild are the dual scimitars. However I excel in rapier and main gauche, the weapon of choice for my two favorite personas, Viggo Romanova and the Comte Renard D'aguillon. However throwing knives are good for a laugh.

Just thought of one. You can't go wrong with Spider Jerusalem's bowel disruptor gun. Always a good choice.

You don't think they have them? Look up Infrasound for less-than-lethal weapons.

Nothing beats two short swords (approximately 28 inches tip to tip), two daggers, or combination of the two. If I just want to hurt someone though, I would use a couple of hardwood Escrimas in place of the swords.

I'm going to have to say that in my line of work my M249 is my weapon of choice. I've had it ever since I got to the unit and if I had the chance it would never leave my sight. As for a more personal population control device I have this evil little piece made by smith and wesson that is razor sharp, very light, and double bladed.
I feel so dirty relying on ranged weapons, but the further my enemy is when I slay him then the better my chance of coming home.

I just thought of something. Everybody is listing their favorite weapon(s), but how many people have any experience USING their said weapon? Combat or mock combat, either one.

I've used my 240 in combat, even though it sucks having to use firearms, I've also used a short sword made by some company I don't know the name of. Basically some company in china made a straight, single bladed, short sword. It's almost impossible to break and saved my ass more than once.
